Aumont-Aubrac is well-known by pilgrims on their way to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle taking the Via Podensis.
This village of a 1,000 inhabitants is situated at 1,000 metres altitude in the very heart of the Massif Central between the Aubrac and the Margeride: a gateway to a multitude of activities.

To explore our region in all its natural and cultural splendour walkers can take the many way-marked footpaths to appreciate wild landscapes and take in the invigorating air.

From a cultural point of view, why not visit the Chateau of the Beaume a stately domain with thick granite walls, and elegant decoration wonderfully restored by artists and craftsmen from Paris and Montpellier.
The estate has remained in the Count of Las Cases' family since 1858, and they maintain the conservation and cultural activities of la Baume.

On the plateaux of the Aubrac you can find beautiful Roman churches in the villages, and higher up in Laguiole you can visit the famous knife-makers and cheese dairies.
In the environs, at the spa town of Chaudes Aigues, you can admire the fountain with the hottest spring in Europe, where the water comes out at 82°C!

You can visit the museums in Saint-Flour before going to Garabit, where you can discover
the viaduct,the Granval Dam, the Chateau of Alleuse, the Circuit of Mallet…
Deep in the heart of the Margeride, the Mont-Mouchet memorial testifies to the dark period
of WW2, when the forests were a cover for the second biggest Resistance movement after
the Vercors group.

Other interesting sites:
the Museum of the 'Wild beast of Gévaudan', and the diorama of St-Bénilde in Saugues;
the Salmon museum in Brioude, etc…

For fun and games you can visit the animal centres (with European bison and the wolves of Gévaudan);
deer and auroch farms, the Villaret Valley, the Villard Medieval farm and the water sports centres on the lakes.
